The University of Miami Police Department (UMPD) is a professional campus police department that maintains a safe and secure environment on the Coral Gables campus. Established in 1969, the department employs 34 police officers, supplemented by security officers, administrative and support staff.
Under the leadership of Chief Trevor Shinn, UMPD prioritizes a relationship-based policing, embracing opportunities to interact with our campus community and its various organizations daily. To further develop and nurture these valuable partnerships, the department also offers numerous educational events and outreach programs throughout the year.
